Quilts for Children

When we lived in Costa Rica I made a few quilts for children’s groups. But it was after we settled in Las Cruces and I connected with the local chapter of Project Linus that I really got serious about children’s quilts. The group here is so talented and dedicated, serving many organizations throughout southern New Mexico with more than 3,000 blankets each year. I set a goal of making two quilts per month, which forced me to learn machine quilting. But I still quilt just on a domestic sewing machine, and I incorporate some handwork into many of the quilts.
One reason I love working with Project Linus is the challenge of designing quilts from whatever interesting fabrics become available at each monthly meeting. There is almost always a selection of beautiful southwest-themed fabrics as well as animal prints, as you will see in this gallery of some of my favorites.
