Welcome to Spingarn Studio!   We created this site to share our love of nature through art, in both Richard’s photography and Penny’s quilts.

In the Photography section you will find galleries showcasing the beauty of the natural world.  There are  photos of birds, insects, and animals both familiar and exotic.  Galleries of plant life from gorgeous garden flowers to delicate wildflowers to intriguing forms of fungi.  The landscape galleries capture the grandeur around us, whether close to our backyard in the Southwest or encountered in our travels.  Complementing this treasury of nature photography are Richard’s blog posts that contain more photos and descriptions of recent shoots.

In the Fiber Arts section you will find galleries showcasing Penny’s evolution as a quilter and lover of all things fiber.  One gallery is devoted to children’s quilts, a passion that has grown over the past several years through her work with Project Linus.  Another gallery features handwork, such as hand applique, mola reverse applique, and embellished fabric cyanotypes–projects inspired by the natural life around us.  One gallery documents quilts made for family members.  Penny’s blog posts will bring you up to date on her latest projects.
