Landscapes
Southwest Landscapes – Having lived in New Mexico for more than five years, I have found some spectacular subjects for landscape photography. Of course, I am still exploring this intriguing expanse of mountains, deserts, forests and wide-open turquoise skies. Often the vistas are so grandiose that it is hard to compose an image without capturing too much, and in the process obscuring the essence and character of the U.S. southwest. I like to think that the photos in this gallery do convey some of this beauty. I hope you will enjoy them. If you do, please let me know and this will encourage me to get out and do more.
Northern Landscapes – For the past several years we have spent the summer traveling in the northern US or Canada. Many of these photos are from our hikes in Minnesota, New England and some of the Canadian Maritime Provinces. This scenery often does not offer the grand wide-open vistas of the U.S. west and southwest so I find myself taking a more intimate approach. I have to be more attentive both to detail and to the possibility of an unusual composition presenting itself on the spur of the moment. Although landscapes in general benefit from some tweaking in post production, it is easy to overdo it so I try to keep things looking natural.
