As we approach the middle of 2023, I am still on track to meet my goal of making two quilts per month for the Las Cruces chapter of Project Linus. Although I always find more than enough interesting fabrics at each monthly gathering, I have started to accumulate lots of disparate pieces from completed quilts, not to mention years of remnants in my own stash. So in May and June I have concentrated on using up some of those accumulated bits.
“On Safari” features a print leftover from fabric I first used in March of last year. I wanted to try a technique for making zigzags without triangles, and combined that with the safari remnant to get another quilt for Linus.
“Too Much Zebra Fabric” comes from a grab bag of black-and-white prints. There are several zebra fabrics in there.
The dragonfly fabric in “Dragonflies and Cattails” came home from Linus a year ago. But the fabric in the sashing and borders is a golden oldie from my stash–I bought this floral print many many years ago with the intent of making a dress! The dress never materialized, so to speak, but at least some of the fabric finally found a home. The ruched cattails are made from a leftover strip showing deer standing in a field. One of the joys of quilting: eventually you can find a use for everything.
