Family Quilts

Working with fiber is a family tradition. My grandmother Margaretta taught me to knit and crochet; my grandmother Martha quilted in a local bee, and my father collected quilts made by family members dating back to the 1930s. When I was about ten years old, my mother bought our first sewing machine and we learned to sew together. So there was never any question that as soon as I took up quilting, the members of our family would continue to get quilts. Because most were given away just as soon as they were finished, there wasn’t always a chance for Richard to take a professional photo. Still, this gallery preserves a record of my contributions to family quilts.
