Avian Portraits – One of my favorite photography subjects is birds. When you click on the photo on the left you can view my gallery of different species of birds in interesting poses. I took many of these shots at the Desert Peaks National Monument near Las Cruces, NM. I had just gotten my new camera so this was my first real attempt at photographing birds as they went about their feeding routines. One of the members of my local Doña Ana Photography Club set up feeders and other objects to attract the birds. It was a fun outing and I learned a lot.
Birds In Flight – I especially like to try photographing birds in fight, giving us a rare view of their grace, beauty and strength. One of the advanced features of my Olympus micro four-thirds camera is called Pro Capture. This feature allows me to anticipate an action and record it before it actually occurs. Several shots are saved to memory before the shutter is opened, giving a series of previous frames to choose from. It still takes a lot of practice to get the timing right. But the results can be impressive.
I hope you enjoy my gallery of birds in flight. Please let me know if you have any comments.
Hummingbirds – Hummingbirds are fascinating for many reasons and capturing them while they perform their aerobatics is always a challenge. They are capable of flying forwards, backwards and upside down. This makes their next move hard to anticipate, not to mention the speed they achieve darting from flower to flower to collect nectar. I took some of the photos in this gallery in my backyard and some while traveling in the Maritime Provinces of Canada.
